All Marketing Notes

I started BetulBetul.com because I believe many good people, businesses and local brands in Malaysia have stories that deserve to be seen.

Over the years, through my work in digital marketing, media, branding and content creation, I have met many business owners, founders and entrepreneurs who are doing genuinely good work. Some have been operating for decades. Some are young founders building something new. Others have interesting personal journeys that most people never get to hear about.

The problem is that many of these stories are not properly documented online.

Some businesses depend almost entirely on Facebook or Instagram. Some only appear on Google Maps. Others have been around for many years but still have very little searchable information about their history, founders or achievements.

That gave me the idea for BetulBetul.com.

Why the Name BetulBetul?

In Malaysia, the phrase “betul betul” is something we use naturally in everyday conversation.

It means something is real, genuine or truly good.

That meaning fits the direction I wanted for the platform.

BetulBetul.com is not meant to be built around exaggerated stories or empty promotion. I wanted it to focus on real people, real businesses, real experiences and stories that are worth sharing.

That is why the positioning became:

Real People. Real Stories.

From Digital Marketing to Digital Media

My background is in digital marketing.

Since starting my marketing career in 2019, I have worked across different industries and projects, including property, finance, education, healthcare, entertainment and local businesses.

Through this work, I started seeing a common problem.

Many companies spend money on advertisements, social media content and promotions, but they do not invest enough in building their long-term digital presence.

An advertisement can disappear once the campaign ends.

A social media post can quickly move down the feed.

But a good article, founder profile or business story can remain searchable online for much longer.

This made me realise that businesses need more than advertising.

They also need stories.

They need content that explains who they are, what they do, how they started and why people should care about their brand.

BetulBetul.com was created to help fill that gap.

How BetulBetul.com Started

The idea started very simply.

I wanted to build a platform where people could discover interesting Malaysian businesses, founders, food places, entrepreneurs, professionals and local stories.

Instead of only covering large corporations or famous personalities, I wanted BetulBetul.com to also give attention to businesses and people that may not normally receive media coverage.

A neighbourhood restaurant can have a great story.

A third-generation family business can have decades of history.

A small startup can have an interesting founder journey.

A young entrepreneur can have valuable lessons to share.

These are the types of stories I want BetulBetul.com to document.

Helping Malaysian Businesses Become More Discoverable

One of the biggest reasons I started BetulBetul.com is online visibility.

Today, when people hear about a company or person, one of the first things they do is search online.

What they find can influence how they view that business.

A strong digital footprint can include a company website, Google Business Profile, social media pages, articles, interviews and independent mentions.

BetulBetul.com adds another layer to that digital presence.

By publishing well-structured business stories and founder profiles, we can help create more searchable information about Malaysian brands and entrepreneurs.

The goal is not simply to publish an article.

The goal is to help businesses build something that can continue to represent them online.

Giving Founders a Platform to Tell Their Story

I am particularly interested in founder stories because people often connect with the person behind a company before they connect with the company itself.

Customers want to know:

Why did you start?

What challenges did you face?

What makes your business different?

How did you grow?

What are you trying to build?

These answers can turn an ordinary company profile into a meaningful story.

For entrepreneurs, telling that story can also help strengthen their personal brand.

When someone searches for the founder's name, there should be more than just a social media profile.

There should be something that explains their journey, work and contribution.

Supporting Local Businesses

Malaysia has no shortage of interesting businesses.

Some have been operating for 30 or 40 years.

Others are just beginning.

Many have survived economic downturns, changing consumer behaviour, competition and digital disruption.

I believe these businesses deserve to have their stories recorded.

BetulBetul.com gives me a platform to highlight these companies and introduce them to a wider audience.

It can be a restaurant, retailer, service provider, professional, startup, family business or established company.

If there is a real story behind it, there is something worth exploring.

Building a Long-Term Media Platform

My vision for BetulBetul.com is bigger than simply publishing random news articles.

I want to gradually build a Malaysian digital media platform around discovery.

A place where people can discover:

Businesses worth knowing.

Founders worth following.

Places worth visiting.

People with interesting journeys.

Local brands doing good work.

Stories that might otherwise never be told.

Over time, I want BetulBetul.com to become a platform where people can search for a person, company or local business and find a well-documented story about them.

Why This Project Matters to Me

As a digital marketer, I have always worked on helping brands get attention.

But attention alone is not enough.

Businesses also need credibility, visibility and a digital history.

That is what makes BetulBetul.com meaningful to me.

It combines several things I care about: marketing, media, entrepreneurship, storytelling, branding and helping businesses become more visible online.

It also gives me the opportunity to meet interesting people and learn how different businesses were built.

Every founder has a different journey.

Every business has a different story.

And sometimes the most interesting stories are not the ones already receiving the most attention.

The Future of BetulBetul.com

BetulBetul.com is still growing.

The focus now is to continue discovering and documenting more real stories across Malaysia.

I want the platform to feature entrepreneurs, SMEs, established family businesses, restaurants, professionals, local brands and people doing interesting work.

The long-term goal is simple:

Build a trusted platform where real Malaysian stories can be discovered.

Because good businesses should not remain invisible.

Good people should not remain unknown.

And good stories deserve to be told.
